A Unique Need and Opportunity
Our current focus is new immigrants from Hong Kong
While our mission is to help immigrants coming from different parts of the world, our current focus is new immigrants from Hong Kong. The UK Home Office conservatively estimates that more than 300,000 Hongkongers will apply for UK residency through the new BN(O) visa scheme in the first five years. These Hong Kong immigrants come from a wide spectrum of social and economic backgrounds. Among them will be those with limited skills and qualifications, little financial support and few contacts in the UK. These people will need help.
Research by AHF has found the following needs to be shared by many new Hong Kong immigrants
Immediate Needs
Place to live
School places for children
Jobs
Access to medical services and emotional support
Medium to long term needs
Planning and self-improvement for a sustainable future in the UK
Balancing integration into UK society with preserving their own heritage and culture and upholding their ethnic identity
Addressing these needs for Hong Kong immigrants will be the immediate work of AHF.
